This is why we clean by hand, rather than machines, and we only use natural cleaning materials. These time-proven techniques are the safest way to clean Oriental rugs, and our vast experience and attention to detail will leave you safe in the knowledge that your rug is receiving the best treatment possible.
Why use natural cleaning materials?
Hand-spun wool rugs have a natural coating of lanolin on the fibers, making them naturally resistant to stains. If chemicals are used in the cleaning process, the lanolin can be broken down, meaning that future stains can be difficult to remove.
Instead, we immerse rugs fully in de-ionized, or softened, water. We take every care to clean at the right temperature, as cleaning with water that is too hot may cause natural vegetable dyes to run, or may cook a protein-based dye, which will alter the overall color.
Why hand cleaning? Why not use machines?
Many general carpet cleaning companies use machines, but these should never be used on Oriental rugs as they can cause damage to the fibers. We only rinse rugs by hand, and will never use wringing machines, which can damage the knots in the rug.
We also offer a pick-up and delivery service for rugs that we clean.
